Destination 3 : The Expenses

Sending expenses day or esso mappenre duie, is done a few weeks after the proposing stage. 10 to 20 person (the groom's representative) will come with the remittance (duie menre) and other items that has been agreed. This ceremony is a important event and will be warmly welcomed by the bride's family. At this event there will be one representative from bride's family who will be responsible in receiving the money. The representative and a few close family members then will proceed to count the money in front of the groom's family to ensure the amount of the money send is the same with the amount that has been discussed before.  Remittance will be given to the bride's mother as a symbolic that her daughter is now under the responsibility of her future husband. The situation of the ceremony can be seen through the video below.

In Bugis Bone community, the remittance is given to purchase necessities for the wedding and as an expense for the bride to prepare herself for the marriage. After confirmation of the amount of money, both families will discussed again to determine the perfect day for the wedding. Usually, the wedding will be carried out in 2 or 3 after this ceremony. As I mention in my first post, the Bugis community is really sensitive and concerned in deciding the day to do any kind of works or event. A week before the wedding, the family will set up a big tent (mappatettong sarapo). The neighbour and all the family members will then come and help with the wedding ceremony.

The wedding tent that usually built a few days before the wedding.

It will be the place where the wedding couch (pelamin) and the place to attend all the guests during the wedding ceremony
