Destination 1 : The Choosen Day & Confirming

Bugis community gave much attention in choosing day for an occasion to determine good luck. Usually, they will choose a day where the readings shows a luck or blessing and avoid days that shows a bad luck. Based on traditional scripture, the day is choosen by Islamic months which is Muharram, Safar, Rabiulawal, Rabiulakhir, Jamadil Awal, Jamadil Akhir, Rejab, Sya'ban, Ramadhan, Syawal, Zulkaedah and Zulhijjah. After choosing months, it will proceed to choosing days. While for most people they will says Sundays or Mondays is the first day for a week. But in Bugis, Friday is said to be the first day as Islam described the day to be full of blessings (berkah). There are five terms to describe days and the luck within the specific days. 

  1. Lobbang (empty/vacant) = difficulties and hardships will most likely to happen, if you doing any important works on these days.
  2. Mallise (full/content) = the most suitable day as it was said that any kind of things will work perfectly during this day.
  3. Uju (death) = this day must be avoided because it will bring damage like accidents or even deaths.
  4. Maddara (blood) = it is also must be avoided because it is belieed that any plan during this day will have difficulties and failed.
  5.  Polebola (neutral) = day that to be said as polebole days neither good or bad luck

After determining month and day, the process will continue in choosing the specific time. The time was stated in the picture. 












The first step to getting marry, is 'merisik' or mapese-pese in Bugis language. Generally, mapese-pese is situation where the man' family (usually represent by four people : two men and two women) come and visit the woman' house to convey the man's wish to marry the woman. The main point of this process is to confirm whether the woman is in relationship with other guy. If she confirmed to have a relationship, the representative would retreat as they don't want to disturb the relationship. If not and the woman is agreeing to this marriage, the process will continue.


During this discusssion, they usually done in informal situation and the woman' side will serve light meals and snacks.
