Last Destination : The Looks


In this post, I will tell you a little about the wedding dress and appearance. This one of the most important part as it was playing a big role to show and highlighted the bride and the groom during their wedding day. 







For the groom, the makeup will be keep as simple as it can to show the masculinity of the groom. Its enough as long as the groom look livelier and giving minimal highlight to the face.









The bride appearance is very important and will be done by paying attention to every aspect on the face of the bride. The make up artist will give extra focus in doing the bride's make up as there is so many details. There also have different makeup for different face shapes, eyebrow, and eyes. It will differ for every bride because it is important to highlight the bride's own uniqueness in addition to maintaining the neutral beauty on the bride's face.







Simpolong Tettong. Simpolong means bun. Tettong means standing.

This bun is symbolic of the buffalo horn, where in the previous custom of the Bugis community, the buffalo was considered an animal with magical powers. Bugis women, get a high position in society. Therefore, this buffalo horn-shaped bun is a tribute to the bride and groom. The hair will be put into a high bun to symbolizes the horn. If the bride's is wearing hijab, a fake hair will be used.

After done making the bun, the hair will be decorated with ornaments to enhance the bride's beauty. The hair will be decorated with kutu-kutu which is a set of hair ornaments consisting of jasmine flower buds and jewelery. It may differ for every Bugis community based on their residence.

















1. The Eyes

For the eyes, there will be different techniques and and looks to enhance the beauty of the brides. 


This is for the bride who have double eyelid that makes their eyes pop up. To give a soft look, the colour that will be choose is soft colour like grey or light blue. Then a little darker colour like brown or deep grey is used to gave sharp and deep effect.



This eye look is for bride that is monolid to help them to gave more highlight to the eyes as this kind of eyes tend to be small. Bright colour is used to the eyelids then a darker colour like orange will be used to give double eyelid effect. Highlight will be done with colour like pink or purple to blend in the colour so the eyes will look more natural. 



 For those individuals that have big eyes, the eyeshadow colour depends on the bride's eye colour to enhance the natural colour of the bride. This makeup look doesn't used much colour as they want to focus to the natural eyes of the bride. 




2. Eyebrows


As you can see in the above picture, there's a few techniques to do the bride's eyebrow. This is very important to preserve the natural shape of the eyebrow and avoid the wrong shape as it will effect the looks of the bride. It is important for the makeup artist to know what best for her client.



3. Face Shape

In Bugis community it is strongly believed that skinny and small face to be beauty. So usually countouring will be done on the cheekbones, jaw and neck to create that small face looks. 









The last part of the makeup look is dadasa. It is drawn on the forehead of the bride. It is the most important thing in completing Bugis wedding makeup. Dadasa is from dried banana leaves that has been burnt and mixed with coconut oil. It is drawn in the curve shape.
